About the Library

picture of clockThe library is open from 8 am to 4 pm.

Students may visit the library during periods 1-7 with their classes or individually. Students who visit individually during instructional periods are asked to sign in so that we are able to account for our patrons in the case of an emergency.

In an emergency, follow the library staff down the stairs located across the hall from the library's front door. At the bottom of the steps, make a left, then a right and exit out the planetarium doors. Walk across the parking lot to the trailers. Check in with library staff.

The library provides study halls during 8th period for students to research, consult with a librarian, or complete homework. . Students can sign up for the library through the intranet or the 8th period office.

During JLC, the library offers quiet study. Parent volunteers provide invaluable support and assistance in the library during JLC. Please afford them the same respect and courtesy that you would to any other member of our school’s faculty or staff.

PRINTING SERVICES: All black-and-white copies are 10 cents a page. Color copies are 50 cents a page. Printouts not picked up will be charged to your library account.

CELL PHONES: in accordance with TJ policies, there is no cell phone usage in the library during instructional time. All cell phones should be off and stowed away.

Food and open drinks are not permitted in the library. Thank you for understanding.

Students can check-out books electronically using their student ID. Library books may be borrowed for a period of five weeks. Reference books are circulated overnight or for a single class period during the school day; many reference books, however, are now available electronically and can be accessed from home.

The library does not charge fines for overdue books; however, students will be held responsible for lost and damaged materials. Overdue notices are emailed as needed to student tjhsst.edu addresses.

The library provides access to computers, black and white and color laser printers, and scanners.  Black & white printouts are 10 cents a page, and color printouts are 50 cents a page.

Classes led by their instructors and/or the librarians have priority over other patrons in accessing the library’s computer equipment.

All computer users are expected to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy for Student Network Access (p. 9) outlined in the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook and by the TJ Honor Code.
